Leonard Edward Veal
January 14, 1971 – April 26, 2020
Brother Leonard E. Veal, Jr. son of the late Deacon Leonard and Annie Bullard Veal was born January 14, 1971 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on April 26, 2020.
When I, superintendent Henry B Hunt became pastor of Mt. Hebron in 1987, his father, mother, he and his sister were members. When BrotherVeal became a teenager, he left the church for a brief while. For the last twenty years he has been at Mt. Hebron faithfully serving in the church. His life-long dream was to become a Deacon. He would often times tell me Uncle Bimp, I would like to be a Deacon. He admired his father so. His father was an impeccable dresser, he loved good food, and he was a Deacon in the church, and so Brother Veal ascribed to do all those things. He was appointed my Usher’s President on last year and he served faithfully.
Fifteen year ago he became a dialysis patient, having to be on dialysis three times a week, never complaining, always looking at it from the bright side. The personal staff at DaVita in Towson and the one in Dundalk always called to check on his welfare. Another program “People Encouraging People” called numerous times to check on Brother Veal. He loved going out on Sunday afternoon to dinner, he was a connoisseur of fried chicken. The salad, the potato and the chicken had to be there, everything had to be in place before he could enjoy the entire meal.
Brother Veal served the Lord, and the bible said to be absent from the body is the be present with the Lord, for John saw the souls of those whose robes had been washed in the blood of the Lamb. God called this young man home after being in the hospital for about 17 days. My wife and I so blessed, Monday before last when the hospital staff allowed for him to call here to the home, and he said very faintly “I love you Uncle Bimp, I love you Aunt Doris.” And then he told the nurse, tell Uncle Bimp that he didn’t pay my cell phone bill. What a wonderful, wonderful, young man. We will miss him, but we know where his soul is resting.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his older brother Andre (Sherri) Bullard and children, step-mother, Patricia Veal Shannon; three sisters, Pebbles Patric Porter, Elizabeth and Alexandria Veal; aunts, Joanne (Alexander) Gabbin, Doris (Superintendent Henry B. (Bimp)) Hunt; cousins, Pastor Kenneth (Lillian) Hunt, Katina Hunt, Nayo Gabbin, a host of other uncles, cousins, relative, church family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Deacon Leonard and Annie Bullard Veal, and his sister, Jessica Sharon Veal.
