Reflection of Life

On Monday, September 1, 2014, Hattie Lee Gavin, 84, departed this life and entered into a home of eternal peace.

Born on December 18, 1929 to the late Ethel Gavin and Bosie Jones, she was raised in Bay Springs, Mississippi, and attended the Bay Springs County School System.

As a factory worker, Hattie was employed by Caterpillar in Joliet, Illinois, where she worked diligently for fifteen years.

Hattie was married to Leonard Gavin. She took great pride in raising her seven children as well as raising three grandchildren.

As a mother of seven, a grandmother and a great grand, nothing could compare to the valuable time that she spent raising and caring for her family, not to mention the pleasure of cooking as she anticipated watching them enjoy her meals. Breakfast every morning was one of her favorite meals as she shared with her family.

Hattie also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and listening to music; as well as dancing, and entertaining her family and friends. A hand of pitty-pat was always engaging.

Hattie took complete pleasure in spending time with her children as well as her family and friends. She simply enjoyed living life.

Hattie was a loving and joyful person to be around. She always showed concern for others and was unselfish to a fault, always giving of herself.

In addition to her parents, Hattie was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresia D. Gavin; sister, Aurelia Hosey, and her daughter-in-law, Virginia Gavin.

Her fondest memories will be remembered by her three sons, John W. Gavin, Leonard Gavin, Jr and Michael L. Gavin; and her three daughters, Patricia Gavin, Cecile Christian Gavin, and Monica Gavin. She also leaves to cherish her sister, Aurellia Hosey and her brother Neihman Gavin; six grandchildren, Maya Gavin, Darian Gavin, Porshia Gavin, Justin Gavin, Hakeem Hunter, and Jaden Gavin; nine great-grandchildren and one grand-dog, Handsome S, Brookins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
