Gloria Jean Smith, of Waldorf, Md.
Gloria Jean Smith was born on October 25, 1951, in Donaldsville, GA. She was the oldest of six children born of the late Jessie L. and Adell Caine Roberson, and wife of the late Alan Smith who died in April 2006.
Gloria received her formal education in Lancaster, PA graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School. She later received both her bachelors and masters degrees from Penn State University. She always believed in achieving high-quality education and was an avid book collector.
She was an active and committed church member and filled the role as a deaconess at Unity Church of Jesus Christ, along with her husband Alan who served as a deacon under the pastorate of Pastor Harold McKenzie. She also loved music and sang alto in the unity choir. She also was featured as a soloist on an album by Pastor Gerald G. Lloyd “You See I Love the Lord” In 1991 Gloria received an offer from the Charles County Board of Education to be a guidance counselor at Milton Somers Middle School, which caused the entire family to relocate to Maryland. She served in this profession until her retirement. She also found a church home attending Greater Saint John Church under Bishop Kevin Gresham.
Gloria loved to read, cook, and laugh loudly. She also loved to watch college football and cheer “We Are” for Penn State. One of her biggest hobbies was knitting.
She leaves to cherish her surviving children; Michael, Tracy, and Nicholas Smith. Grandchildren; Trinity, Majesty, Legacy (deceased) and Liberty Smith. Brother Glenn Roberson, and sister Gail Roberson. Three Brothers; Jessie Roberson, Jr., Terry Roberson, and Charles Roberson who preceded her in death.
