Reflection of Life

On Thursday, May 25, 2017, Elder Andrew Lee Brown, Sr. gained his eternal wings.

Andrew Lee Brown, Sr., affectionately known as “Bud” to family and friends, was born in Bainbridge, GA on March 31, 1941. He was the oldest of four children born to the late Jessie and Classie Phillips. He attended Hutto High School in Bainbridge, GA.

He later moved from Bainbridge, GA to Wilmington, DE where he was employed with Kraft Foods. After 31 years, he retired. Mr. Brown was also employed with Airplex in Delaware for a number of years.

In the early 2000’s, he relocated to Maryland and was joined in holy matrimony to the former Dr. Frances L. Taylor.

Mr. Brown was an avid golfer, jokester and loved traveler. He was a father-figure to an in-numerous amount of people. His nieces and nephews favored him and he favored them even more. He often provided godly advice and counseling to many in his neighborhood and to single men on how to treat a lady, and gave tips to husbands on how to have a successful marriage. He enjoyed dancing although he may not have been the best dancer. Mr. Brown also believed in “dressing sharp” and enjoyed a good soul food meal at times.

Elder Brown was a lover of all genres of music, but he especially enjoyed Gospel Quarter music and “oldies but goodies.” He was a gifted singer and songwriter. For over 50 years, he sang across the country around the world with The Calvary Singers. The Calvary Singers also had a television show during the time the group was active. He also sang with the legendary Jay Caldwell & the Gospel Ambassadors.

Elder Brown was a member and First Man of Purity Pentecostal Deliverance Center where he served as the leader of the Men’s Ministry and Male Chorus. He was known for his soul-stirring singing and moving the congregation with his infamous shout!

Elder Brown was pre-deceased by his parents, Jessie and Classie Phillips; his son, Andre Brown, and sister, Ossie Mae English.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Dr. Frances L. Brown; eight children, Tyrone Brown, Sr. and Andrew Brown, Jr. both of Wilmington, DE, Chriscynthia Aikens of Detroit, MI, Desiree Estriplet (Zladimir) of Wilmington, DE, Pastor Jerry Dyson (Tahn) of Fredericksburg, VA, Anthony Ward (Barbara) of Farmington Hills, MI, Prophetess Martha Ward of New Carrolton, MD and Evangelist Angela Robinson of Temple Hills, MD; one sister, Carol Phillips, and one brother, Jessie Phillips, Jr. both of Wilmington, DE; special goddaughter, Tammy Ponzo of Wilmington, DE; close friend, Floyd Henry of Wilmington, DE; 19 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law; and lastly, a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives, godchildren, spiritual children, his numerous friends and colleagues in ministry, and his loving church family, Purity Pentecostal Deliverance Center.
